Let me share with you some new things my children have learned…

Hey everyone! I am so excited to share this information with you about my children. I am SO proud of my children right now! Over the last few days, my kids have been playing with the Discovery Toys Busy Bugs Learning Set, as well as our Playful Patterns. Now, that’s nothing new, because those two games have been one of their favorite games for quite a while. However, they are definitely learning some new things with them!

For starters, my 2 1/2 year old daughter has been learning how to match basic colors correctly. After working with her over the last year on colors and color recognition, and seeing little results, this is the biggest success in this department that I have seen with her! I am SUPER excited and proud of my baby girl!

Now, my son, he LOVES Playful Patterns. As many of you know, he is turning 4 years old this Saturday. Boy how time flies! He has spent countless hours playing with the Playful Patterns game since I joined Discovery Toys back in September 2008. But now, he has taken it upon himself to, instead of placing the colored foam shape pieces on the cards that have picture designs, instead, he looks at the picture on the card, and creates it with the foam shape pieces on our kitchen table. Sometimes, he will even create his own picture! Take yesterday for instance, he decided to create a sailboat with the pieces. He didnt have a picture of a sailboat anywhere in site, he was doing it all from what he visioned in his head. he even made it into a 2D picture by making part of the sail stand up! What does this mean? It means, not only is this game teaching my little boy shape recognition, colors, matching, etc., but it is also teaching him that it is O.K. to use your imagination and create something all on your own! Creativity is a wonderful, exciting thing for children!

I can’t tell you how many hours my children have spent playing and learning with the toys from Discovery Toys, I can tell you this though… I am seeing great results from them playing with these toys, and I will encourage everyone I know, and everyone reading this blog, to buy your children some toys from Discovery Toys the next time you need to buy something for  your precious little one. Have you ever wondered what its like to be a Discovery Toys Educational Consultant?

Well, let me tell you, this is absolutely the best financial, personal, and business decision I have made in a VERY long time! I am having so much fun helping other people find high quality educational toys for their children, finding the “perfect business fit” for their financial needs, and playing with all the wonderful children (and adults!) that I meet at my parties!

I only work about 10 hours a week (sometimes less, just depends on what I have going on and how I feel lol), and I am quickly working my way up the “ranks” to building a wonderful business that my children will be proud to tell their friends about when they get older! I have never felt this much enthusiasm, excitement, and success with any other business that I have tried over the last 6 years that I have been looking for MY “perfect business fit”. I have made more money in one month with this business than I have made in a YEAR with others I have tried! And trust me, it wasn’t because of a lack of trying with those others. I work less with this business, but make more and feel more successful than I have in a very long time.

When I am working in my home office (not at a party), my typical day goes like this:

7 or 7:30am- I wake up to my beautiful children calling my name.

7:30am-8am Check my sons blood sugar levels, give insulin & Breakfast (it IS the most important meal of the day, ya know! LOL)

8am- check emails, reply to emails, play a little bit on Facebook, have a tickle match with my kids or some other fun activity

10am- Check my son’s blood sugar levels, and give both my kids a morning snack

10:30am- Get my son dressed for Head Start, pack up his diabetic necessities for him to carry to school, brush his teeth and hair and watch some educational kids shows on PBS or Disney… or we pop in an educational dvd to watch together

11:20am- Make sure everything is ready for my son to take to school, get his coat/jacket on, and we start watching for the school bus to come while playing I SPY, Ring Around The Rosies, or some other silly game with the kids.

About 11:30-11:45am- put son  on school bus, get daughters lunch ready, put a load of dishes in the dishwasher, a load of laundry in the washer

12pm noon- Lunch Time!! Wait for the call from head start to tell me how his levels are doing, and how well he is eating his lunch (in case I need to make some adjustments for him over the phone)

About 12:45-1pm- play with my daughter, read some books to her

About 2pm- check email again, then maybe take my daughter outside for a while wheather permitting, or find another activity for us to do.

About 3pm- put away dishes, change over laundry, put laundry away, goof off on Facebook or other networking sites, wait by the phone for head start to call to tell me his afternoon snack time number and make adjustments as I see fit.

About 3:30pm- Check email again, do a little internet advertising

4pm- pick up my son from the school bus, check his sugar, do some activities while we wait for my hubby to get home.

4:30pm talk to hubby while preparing dinner

5:30pm Dinner time! YAY! Check my sons sugar, give him his insulin, and eat!

6pm- talk to hubby for a few more minutes

6:30pm- Nap Time!!! Sometime between now and 8pm, my hubby gives the kids their baths

8pm- hubby checks my sons sugar level, gives him 2 kinds of insulin and gives the kids their bedtime snack, usually I am still napping at this time unless the kids wake me up lol.

8:30pm- start bedtime routine, brush the kids teeth, wash their face, pick up their toys in OUR bedroom, the living room, and THEIR bedroom lol, tuck the kids in, and read them a bedtime story.

9pm- hubby goes to sleep

9pm-12am- some advertising, chatting with friends online, sometimes I schedule some online vendor parties, and play around on the internet.

12am- do a midnight blood sugar check for my son, If he has a good number, I go to bed. If not, then I stay up till 3am watching A&E and playing on the internet.

3am- Check sons blood sugar again if he didnt have a good number at midnight, then go to bed

So, you see, I really do not spend much time at all on my business. To be completely honest with you, I dont even do advertising everyday like this. I do it about 2-3 times a week, if that.

Now, when I am helping a hostess who has already booked a party with me, about 2 weeks before the party, I put together the hostess packet and mail it out. If they have questions, they either email me or call me with them. The night of the party, my parties typically last between 2-3 hours from start to finish.

So you see, I spend MOST of my time with my family, playing with my kids, and VERY LITTLE TIME on my business each week.

Why am I telling you all of this?

Well, because, many people think they “don’t have time” for a home based business. But, let me tell you, if I can do it… if other mothers who also work outside the home can do it, YOU CAN TOO!

Super Yummy

The Super Yummy is a wonderful teether because not only will it help ease your baby’s teething pain, but it will also help teach her about different textures, help her grasp things, and has a light vanilla fragrance!

When your child can start grasping things, give her the Super Yummy. At first, she may put it in her mouth, most likely by accident, but this will start to teach her about different textures. As you may know, babies learn about their surroundings by touching and tasting things. Experts have said that, that is why babies put EVERYTHING in their mouths! The Honest Scrap Award

A dear friend of mine, Luna Wolf from Luna Wolf’s Mystical Essence, has been a wonderful friend, fellow WAHM, cheerleader, and more, for me over the last year or so. She is a wonderful friend to everyone she meets.

Why am I telling you all of this, you may be asking?!

Well, I read her blog today and was totally shocked! She has nominated my Dawn’s Learning Toys blog for The Honest Scrap Award.

This is a true honor! Thank You Luna!!

The way it works is like this.
1) List 10 honest things about yourself.
2) Pass the award on to 7 other bloggers who you feel embody the spirit of the Honest Scrap.

So, here are my 10 honest things about myself.

a) I live in a very small town in Pennsylvania called Cresson. Most of the time I think it is a great little town since there’s never any drama, but there are days where I wish we lived on some farm land where I can just step outside, sit on my front porch and look at nothing but the absolute beauty of the land. Let my children run on several acres of of land and not be so concerned with oncoming traffic.

b) I have a horrible, horrible habit of biting my nails. I know, its disgusting, but contrary to popular belief, it IS a hard habit to break!

c) My son was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes on October 6th, 2008. Since that date, I have become pretty OCD about finding things that he CAN have, such as candies, cookies, ice cream, cakes, pies, you know, all the things that come along with a normal childhood. It has become my passion to keep his childhood as “normal” as I possibly can.

d) My family and I live with my sister-in-law. We currently can not afford to get our own place, so it is just cheaper to live with her and split the bills.

e) Coffee is the only thing that keeps me awake LOL. I tend to drink between 6 and 7 cups of coffee a day or more… depending on how many hours of sleep I got the night before.

f) On average, I only get about 3 1/2 hours of sleep a night. Why? Because since my son’s diagnosis, we are having to check his sugar at midnight, and if he is high or low then, I then have to recheck it again at 3am. Since I know I don’t wake up with alarm clocks, it is just better, and safer, if I stay up to check him. And, since breakfast has to be at 7:30am every morning, and my kids are generally up for the day by 7… that means I have to be up by 6 or 6:30 (although, when I am really tired, which lately has been the case, they wake me up when they get up LOL)

g) My favorite TV shows are CSI Miami, The Beast, Intervention, and well, most of the shows on the A&E channel LOL.

h) I try my best to help others when and where I can. I will do my best to help anyone I possibly can, and if I can’t, I direct them to someone who may be able to help them more than I can.

i) I absolutely LOVE being a mommy! I love being there for them, kissing their “boo boo’s”, showing them something new and seeing their faces light up with joy when they learn and understand it. Playing with them, reading to them at night before bed. Being a mommy has been the absolute most rewarding “job” I have ever had!

j) My number one Pet Peeve is a liar. I can not stand a liar. Lying to me, in my opinion, is like slapping me in the face. I don’t care what the lie is about… if I am lied to, I take it very personal. I try my best to be an honest, up-front person, and I expect the same in return. That is my absolute biggest pet peeve (although haha I’m sure I could list a few others that come in a close second place LOL)

Bugs can help teach too… With Discovery Toys!

Yes, you read the title correctly! Bugs can help teach too here with Discovery Toys!

“How?” you may be asking?

Well….

The Busy Bugs Learning Set is full of colorful catapillars, bees, beetles, dragonflies, and more. This set also comes with learning cards to help your little one distinguish colors, match colors, follow directions, sort colors, and even sort by species! As you go through the cards, front to back, each card gets a little more difficult, to help the child advance and think. You can adapt this game to suit your childs learning needs too! If you find that your child knows the cards and how to use them like the back of their hand, this is a great tool to introduce basic math concepts like addition and subtraction! This is one of my 3 1/2 year old son’s favorite games to play with from Discovery Toys. He fell in love with it immediately (HEHE I think its cuz of the bugs HAHA).
