We are excited to support an amazing hospital located 40 miles outside of Port-au-Prince called the HOPITAL ALBERT SCHWEITZER (HAS). The hospital has been in existence for more than fifty years.  From their website (www.hashaiti.org):
 
Hôpital Albert Schweitzer (HAS) is a model for health care facilities in developing countries around the world. An integrated rural health system, HAS provides medical care and community health and development programs for more than 300,000 impoverished people in the Artibonite Valley of central Haiti. Visiting medical professionals from North America and abroad work with a permanent Haitian staff of almost 550. Financial support comes from partner organizations and private individuals around the world.
 
HOW IT WORKS: 
For every dollar donated through March 31, 2010, Discovery Toys will match your donation in toys and cash.
 
For every dollar donated through Discovery Toys home-based Parties, attended by people like YOU, DT will match your donation dollar for dollar with our wonderful learning toys plus a cash contribution.  I will add your cash donations to your DT Party purchase and Discovery Toys will match your contribution and donate cash and up to $50,000 retail value of our toys to HOPITAL ALBERT SCHWEITZER (HAS) and their designated partners – nearby schools and orphanages.  Because these donations are being made through Discovery Toys as a third party, they are not tax deductible. However, the advantage to you is to know that in addition to your valued donation, HAS will receive a matching donation of product and dollars from Discovery Toys equal to the amount collected.

Discovery Toys Steps It Up A Notch!!!!

Discovery Toys, longtime Sponsor and Partner of Toys for Tots, was in the midst of readying their annual toy donation in December when members of the Concord, California, Marine Reserve Unit arrived at our warehouse and related the toll that the economic crisis has taken on the local Toys for Tots area drive this holiday season. With many businesses shut down this year and many more not able to support the annual T4T drive as in years past…they needed over 20,000 toys in one week to meet their goal…it looked as though the Holidays were likely not to be so jolly!

Every year Discovery Toys makes a firm commitment to donate at least 2500 toys or $50,000 to Toys for Tots! This year the dock was loaded with over 3000 toys at the time of pick-up! Upon hearing this story, though, Discovery Toys leaders and staff made a very quick decision to do more…

This year we literally opened our warehouse to giving…and loaded palettes of toys, books, games, and more, to exceed the Toys for Tots need! Monday, December 14, 2009, over 27,000 products left our company warehouse with a retail value of $500,000 – ten times our customary donation!

At Discovery Toys, we believe in giving back to our communities and partnering with causes that bring education and joy to children everywhere. Thank you, Toys for Tots, for doing what you do to help us contribute our share!

The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation has supplemented local toy collections around the country

with more than 81.3 million toys valued at more than $487 million. While the Marines coordinate

Puzzle Ring Toss

Exploration & Motor Skills DT Pre-school years toy

Puzzle Ring Toss has become one of my family’s favorite family games! We bought the Puzzle Ring Toss for my 4 1/2 year old son for Christmas. At first glance, my first reaction was, “This is going to be Awsome to help me lower his diabetic blood sugar highs!” As we played it, not only did it help with his high blood sugars, but I noticed he also enjoyed putting the base pieces together like a puzzle in a variety of ways, matching up the ring colors with the base colors, taking apart the pegs from the base and putting them back together, as well as tossing the rings to try to “hook” them! Since Christmas, both of my children have spent hours upon hours playing with the Puzzle Ring Toss! It helps my 4 1/2 year old work on his motor skills to improve them as well as reinforce what he has already learned about colors and matching. For my 3 year old daughter, it helps her with color matching and sorting! Even though the Puzzle Ring Toss is designed for children ages 4+… it is a great addition to any home with children of most any age! Babies could even sit on the floor and work on looping the rings over the pegs to help them work on gross motor skills!

1. Standing as close as necessary, each player throws all five rings, one at a time, then counts how many rings land on the pegs.

2. Same play as above, except this time players try to match the colored rings to the bases of the same color.

3. Each player receives one ring and, standing far away, tosses it toward the base of the same color. If the ring does not land around the peg, the player then tries again from the spot where the ring landed and keeps throwing until he’s successful. The player with the fewest throws is the winner!

The 2009 year is coming to a close. Where has the year gone?! It seems to have flown by so fast!

Playtime for Babies!

Eating, sleeping, dirty diapers. Thats what many people think babies do all day! What most people don’t realize is in addition to those things, babies are constantly learning new things, developing new skills, and practicing skills they’ve already learned!
