Children with learning disabilities need extra attention and support. Children learn at different rates. Some children catch onto things faster than others, just as some children take a little longer to grasp some things. From a personal perspective, I was a slow learning child. I had issues with math and reading skills. It still sometimes takes me a little longer to read and comprehend some things I read, and I always use a calculator to make sure my math is correct. There are MANY children out there who need our love, support, and most importantly, time!
Sometimes children just show no interest in things because it isn’t “fun” or “exciting”. I think in some ways, that was part of my problem growing up.
Why am I telling you all of this?
Because it is relevant to what this blog is all about. Discovery Toys offers a way for you to show any child, whether they are a fast learner, slow learner, lack of interest, whatever the case may be, we have something for you!
Our toys are designed to teach, in a fun and creative way, because with Discovery Toys, the possibilities are endless!
We believe a child’s work is a play. Children play to learn from the time they are born! Think about it. Why do babies put things in their mouth? To learn about that object. Its smell, how it feels, its taste, the different textures, the list goes on. And, we as parents, let our babies do this because we know that they are playing with it that way to learn about that object.
Discovery Toys was built on that concept.
We have toys for children from birth through adult. All educational. All fun. And all a great way to help build, or continue building relationships between parent and child.
I have a 2 year old daughter and a 3 1/2 (almost 4) year old son and they absolutely adore Discovery Toys’s toys! My daughters favorite toy is the Hammer Away and my sons favorite (or should I say New favorite hehe) is Flip Flop Faces as well as his old favorite, Busy Bugs. They both spend HOURS on these toys, and I have no problems with that because I know they are learning things as they play.
And, if you have a child like mine with Type 1 Diabetes, you are constantly thinking of new and fun activities for your child to do to keep him/her active to get enough exercise to keep blood sugars low. Discovery Toys has the answer to that too! For my son, the Flip Flop Faces helps a great deal. It gets him up and throwing these little bean bags at these cutsie little plastic bowls to try to flip them over to get the faces up. When he does it, he jumps for joy! When he doesn’t, he laughs, says “aww booger” LOL, and tries again. I also play a little side game with him. I tell him which colored face to throw the bean bag at, which keeps the repitiion factor of learning at the top of his mind. That way, he is working on his colors while getting the exercise he needs to maintain good blood sugars, or to come down from a high blood sugar.
Now, with the Busy Bugs game, I do a multiple of things with him. You see, this game consists of about 14 different cards, and several different bugs. The cards ask the children different things such as “Find all the blue bugs and place them on the blue squares”, or ” Find 3 blue bugs and 3 red bugs and match them to the colored boxes”, theres even cards that say ” Find 3 bees and 3 caterpillers and place them on the matching sections”. First, I have him follow the directions on the card. This helps him work on his colors, numbers, and color recognition, and even shape recognition. Then, I add a little bit of basic math to it by doing activities like: If you have 6 bees and I take 2 away, how many bees do you have left? He loves it, and I love it because it is keeping him ahead of the game in his Head Start school as well as keeping his little brain active and constantly thinking while hes having a blast.
With my 2 year old daughter, we are currently working on teaching her colors, so, the Hammer Away is what we use as a teaching aide. I ask her to hammer the blue ball (or whatever color comes to my mind at the time) and sometimes she gets it right, other times she doesn’t. I also teach her how to count with it by counting all the balls with her, or all the things that are the color blue for instance, etc.
Here is a few of our family’s other favorite toys and games from Discovery Toys!

Remember, all of these toys are great educational tools. I have even had my son’s pre-school teacher tell me I can use them for home-schooling!
