Super Yummy

The Super Yummy is a wonderful teether because not only will it help ease your baby’s teething pain, but it will also help teach her about different textures, help her grasp things, and has a light vanilla fragrance!

When your child can start grasping things, give her the Super Yummy. At first, she may put it in her mouth, most likely by accident, but this will start to teach her about different textures. As you may know, babies learn about their surroundings by touching and tasting things. Experts have said that, that is why babies put EVERYTHING in their mouths! (and here we thought it was just to drive mommy nuts LOL) As she learns about the different textures, she will start developing her gross motor skills, and her movements will become more purposeful. She will then be able to purposely put the teether in her mouth… and with the great fragrance of vanilla to intice her.. why wouldn’t she?!

The Super Yummy is a little “wierd” looking in shape, but each knob has a different texture! Your child will learn to love exploring the different knobs and textures. The different textures are also wonderful for older infants who are teething. When children teeth, they are in a lot of pain (obviously LOL), and they are looking for comfort and consoling. Super Yummy is wonderful for this! The textured knobs will be very soothing on your little prince or princess’s gums. Think of it as a massage treatment for your babys whole mouth!

The Honest Scrap Award

A dear friend of mine, Luna Wolf from Luna Wolf’s Mystical Essence, has been a wonderful friend, fellow WAHM, cheerleader, and more, for me over the last year or so. She is a wonderful friend to everyone she meets.

Why am I telling you all of this, you may be asking?!

Well, I read her blog today and was totally shocked! She has nominated my Dawn’s Learning Toys blog for The Honest Scrap Award.

This is a true honor! Thank You Luna!!

The way it works is like this.
1) List 10 honest things about yourself.
2) Pass the award on to 7 other bloggers who you feel embody the spirit of the Honest Scrap.

So, here are my 10 honest things about myself.

a) I live in a very small town in Pennsylvania called Cresson. Most of the time I think it is a great little town since there’s never any drama, but there are days where I wish we lived on some farm land where I can just step outside, sit on my front porch and look at nothing but the absolute beauty of the land. Let my children run on several acres of of land and not be so concerned with oncoming traffic.

b) I have a horrible, horrible habit of biting my nails. I know, its disgusting, but contrary to popular belief, it IS a hard habit to break!

c) My son was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes on October 6th, 2008. Since that date, I have become pretty OCD about finding things that he CAN have, such as candies, cookies, ice cream, cakes, pies, you know, all the things that come along with a normal childhood. It has become my passion to keep his childhood as “normal” as I possibly can.

d) My family and I live with my sister-in-law. We currently can not afford to get our own place, so it is just cheaper to live with her and split the bills.

e) Coffee is the only thing that keeps me awake LOL. I tend to drink between 6 and 7 cups of coffee a day or more… depending on how many hours of sleep I got the night before.

f) On average, I only get about 3 1/2 hours of sleep a night. Why? Because since my son’s diagnosis, we are having to check his sugar at midnight, and if he is high or low then, I then have to recheck it again at 3am. Since I know I don’t wake up with alarm clocks, it is just better, and safer, if I stay up to check him. And, since breakfast has to be at 7:30am every morning, and my kids are generally up for the day by 7… that means I have to be up by 6 or 6:30 (although, when I am really tired, which lately has been the case, they wake me up when they get up LOL)

g) My favorite TV shows are CSI Miami, The Beast, Intervention, and well, most of the shows on the A&E channel LOL.

h) I try my best to help others when and where I can. I will do my best to help anyone I possibly can, and if I can’t, I direct them to someone who may be able to help them more than I can.

i) I absolutely LOVE being a mommy! I love being there for them, kissing their “boo boo’s”, showing them something new and seeing their faces light up with joy when they learn and understand it. Playing with them, reading to them at night before bed. Being a mommy has been the absolute most rewarding “job” I have ever had!

j) My number one Pet Peeve is a liar. I can not stand a liar. Lying to me, in my opinion, is like slapping me in the face. I don’t care what the lie is about… if I am lied to, I take it very personal. I try my best to be an honest, up-front person, and I expect the same in return. That is my absolute biggest pet peeve (although haha I’m sure I could list a few others that come in a close second place LOL)

My 7 Honest Scrappers that I am passing the Award to are as follows:

Kimberly, author of She Scribes

Shannon Miller, author of Twice Loved Boutique

Karen Fine, author of Mom Cooks Gluten Free

Carole Harris, author of At Home With My Friends

Stacy, author of Stacy’s Random Thoughts

Heidi, author of Heidi’s Happenings

Simone Williams, author of Fashionably Business

Congratulations ladies!!! Remember to grab the Award button to the left, put it on your blog, and link it back to my blog. Then, when you’re done picking YOUR Honest Scrappers, remember to tell them to do the same!

Thank you so much Luna for thinking of me as an Honest Scrapper! I look forward to reading your next blog update!

Bugs can help teach too… With Discovery Toys!

Yes, you read the title correctly! Bugs can help teach too here with Discovery Toys!

“How?” you may be asking?

Well….

The Busy Bugs Learning Set is full of colorful catapillars, bees, beetles, dragonflies, and more. This set also comes with learning cards to help your little one distinguish colors, match colors, follow directions, sort colors, and even sort by species! As you go through the cards, front to back, each card gets a little more difficult, to help the child advance and think. You can adapt this game to suit your childs learning needs too! If you find that your child knows the cards and how to use them like the back of their hand, this is a great tool to introduce basic math concepts like addition and subtraction! This is one of my 3 1/2 year old son’s favorite games to play with from Discovery Toys. He fell in love with it immediately (HEHE I think its cuz of the bugs HAHA).

So, if you would like to see your little one have fun with bugs (and not get sick when they put them in their mouths LOL), check out our Busy Bugs Learning Set!

See… bugs CAN help teach too!

Motor Works~ What it is, and how it helps your little boy (and girls too!)

Today I would like to talk about Discovery Toys’s Motor Works.

How many times have you corrected your baby boy for taking things apart just to see how they work and if they can put them back together again? Well, Discovery Toys has come up with a great way to entertain your boys in this “mechanical curiosity” phase!

Motor Works is a wonderful toy designed for boys ages 4 years and up, however, even girls can enjoy playing and building the airplane, race car, and motorcycle! Both my children LOVE this toy, and spend hours upon hours with it! So much so, I have to pry my son away from it so I can get him enough exercise to maintain his blood glucose levels!

Motor Works comes with all the parts necessary for building the 3 vehicles: Airplain, Race Car, and Motorcycle. It also comes with a battery powered drill with 2 bits (don’t worry mom, all made of plastic :D ), and extra plastic screws (because we know kids tend to lose pieces!). Each vehicle has a moving part too! The Airplane’s propellers move, the Motorcycle’s pistons move, and the Racecar’s engine block moves! How cool is that?! We sure didn’t have these type of things when we were growing up, huh dad? LOL. And, the big plastic container can act as a toolbox!

Now, as many of you know, helping a small boy develop his fine motor skills can be tricky, and sometimes you have to get a little creative. Girls, on the other hand, are generally great with fine motor skills. Think about it. Boys play with a lot of cars, trucks, etc. Girls play with a lot of dolls, dressing them, fixing their hair, etc.

Now, Discovery Toys has come out with Motor Works to help little boys build their fine motor skills in a way that is inticing and fun to them!

Motor Works also helps with hand-eye coordination, color recognition and matching, and learning how things work!

Your little guy is truely going to love this toy! And, I’ll bet even your daughter will get into it too… just like mine does!

You can get this great toy for your child for under $30. And, don’t forget, all of Discovery Toys products are backed with a Lifetime Guarentee! Get yours today!
